This Privacy Policy explains how the AreaText Chrome Extension ("the Extension") handles your data. The core operational principle of AreaText is absolute local processing. We do not collect, transmit, store, or sell any user data.

1. Data Collection and Usage

AreaText operates strictly offline within your browser environment. Specifically:

• No Remote Servers: We do not route your web pages, images, videos, or selected text through external servers.
• Local Processing: All Document Object Model (DOM) text extraction and Optical Character Recognition (OCR) processing occur entirely on your local machine using a bundled Tesseract WebAssembly module[cite: 3, 5].
• No Analytics: We do not embed tracking pixels, analytics engines, or telemetry scripts. We do not track how or when you use the Extension.

2. Permissions Justification

To fulfill its single purpose of copying text from your screen, AreaText requests specific browser permissions. Here is exactly how they are used:

• activeTab: Used only when you click the extension icon. It allows the extension to read the structure of the current webpage or capture a screenshot of your specific selection for local OCR processing[cite: 1, 3]. It does not grant continuous access to your browsing history.
• scripting: Required to inject the graphical selection overlay and the text extraction script into the webpage you are currently viewing[cite: 1, 3].
• offscreen: Used strictly to run the offline OCR engine in a background document, allowing the extension to read text from images and videos without freezing your active webpage[cite: 1, 5].

3. Screen Captures and Clipboard

When you select an area of your screen, the Extension temporarily captures that specific region to extract text[cite: 2]. This image data is held only in your browser's temporary memory for the duration of the processing step and is immediately discarded. The extracted text is sent directly to your system clipboard[cite: 2].

4. Third-Party Code

The Extension relies exclusively on internal, locally bundled code. There are no remote scripts, external font libraries, or third-party content delivery networks (CDNs) utilized at runtime[cite: 3, 4].
